Hearing it for the first time today, I have to say I am completely impressed. The lyrics are very introspective, the music is absolutely beautiful, subtle and allows her voice, raw, emotional, to really be heard.
Mariah's voice is respected all over the world for it's power. But here, in this song, you can really appreciate the quality of her voice. Her tone is superb, her pitch, perfect and every note is colored with emotion. I'm really impressed and I really like this song. I love this song. It gives me goose-pimples each time I listen to it. I can't wait till I can buy it on iTunes...
RIGHT TO DREAM
[Written by Mariah Carey, Willie Nelson]
I lay awake sometimes
Scared to close my eyes
And I wonder where I left myself
I lost the will to fly
And the night melts into morning
Still it's cold beneath the sun
'Cause the fire in me's languishing
And I'm too frozen to run
Every once in a while
There's a distant glimmer of hope
I find
Somewhere deep inside
Someone strong still resides
And I know she's gonna be fine
In time
'Cause you see
I've got a lot to dream
There's more than this for me
An angel lands with broken wings
Warms me with his eyes
And the ice that sheaths around my heart
Unravel as he smiles
See I grew up locked in sorrow
So I learned to block the pain
But I won't give up tomorrow
'Cause I've come to life again
Every once in a while
There's a distant glimmer of hope
I find
Somewhere deep inside
Someone strong still resides
And I know I'm gonna be fine
That's right
'Cause for real
I've got a right to dream
There's more than this for me
But I keep on going 'cause
Every once in a while
There's a distant glimmer of hope
I find
Somewhere deep inside
Someone strong still resides
And I know she's gonna be fine
In time
'Cause you see
I've got a right to dream
There's more than this for me
I miss Melissa Etheridge. Every time one of her CDs came out, I devoured it. Poured over every single syllable of every single word she sang. Her lyrics told a story, drew you into her world and made you see your own. Her lyrics inspired me as a poet, as a writer, as a person. There's something about Sugarland's lyrics on the new CD that remind me of Melissa. They're quite heartfelt and tell a story with each song. So I'm on a lyric kick... and I guess a Sugarland kick... This song is called Wishing and I can think of a few people in my neighborhood that could relate to this lyrics right now. There are few stellar lines that make me envious... Enjoy!
Wishing
by Sugarland
Sometimes it’s a pair of
Old faded denim, I know
It’s gonna fit me like a friend
Or some radio song
You can’t help but sing along
Wishing they’d spin it over and over again
Could be the windows down on Sunday drive
Smell of rain on a summer night
Anything that brings a little more comfort my way
But sometimes, there’s those times
It’s gotta be you
I keep telling myself I’m moving on
But I’m stumbling
Believing my heart was strong enough and now I’m wondering
Cause every step I take that leads me away
Just circles back to your door
Wishing I didn’t love you anymore
I’ve tried turning to
The arms of someone new
But I can’t seem to fool this fool
I’ve seen closing times
With every bottle dry
And I’ve seen days alone in my own room
I’ve asked God and magazines, stacks of books and movie screens
Anything to bring a little more comfort my way
But sometimes, there’s those times
It’s gotta be you
I keep telling myself I’m moving on
But I’m stumbling
Believing my heart was strong enough and now I’m wondering
Cause every step I take that leads me away
Just circles back to your door
Wishing I didn’t love you anymore
If you give me more
I’ve done everything
I can’t forget
If there is a way I ain’t found it yet
I keep telling myself I’m moving on
Believing my heart was strong
But every step I take that leads me away just circles back to your door
Wishing I didn’t love you
What I’d give if I could touch you
Wishing I didn’t love you anymore
